Internal systems

last updated: Feb 10, 2019

Below are the internal systems we use to help us do our best collaborative work. If you are new tohave just joined the lab, make sure you can access all of the shared resources and that you have created (or already have) individual accounts where one is required.

No password required

  • Lab notebook submission link - for submitting entries to the lab notebook.

  • ChildLangLab wiki - our work in progress knowledge base that describes what we do and how we do it (you are reading it right now!)

  • schulerlab@googlegroups.com (by invitation)- our email list-serv. This is used to send messages to the entire lab. For example, to call lab meetings or announce other things our entire team would be interested in. All lab members are welcome to send things of interest to this list serve (including undergraduates). If you prefer not to receive these emails as a daily digest, rather than one-off emails all day, you can change your personal settings in google groups.

  • Lab Newsletter - our lab newsletter. We send one out once a semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer) to update friends of the lab on what we’ve been doing.

Shared lab account (one shared lab login and password):

  • Calendly - Our scheduling tool, which allows participants to schedule appointments with our researchers online. We have one shared Calendly account, but each researchers running participants has a unique calendar link within that account.

  • Gmail** - We have a shared gmail account (childlanglab@sas.upenn.edu) that we use to communicate with our research participants.

  • Google calendar - We have a shared calendar (at the same childlanglab@sas.upenn.edu account) that we use to schedule participants and other lab events.

  • Google voice - We use google voice as our phone and voicemail. Note that our google voice address is DIFFERENT than our regular lab email: childlanglab.voice@gmail.com.

Individual accounts (you’ll use your own account and password):

  • Google drive - We use google drive to manage shared files in the lab. Files on which you are invited to collaborate will be shared with you personally, via your @sas.upenn.edu address.

  • Todoist - we use todoist as our task manager. All lab members will use todoist in some way or another. Clink the link to request to join the lab’s todoist team.

  • Github - You’ll need a github account to make edits to the lab website or wiki, and to work on lab code. If you don’t already have an account, I recommend signing up for the student developer pack – the way we use github is free, but this pack provides lots of cool (normally paid) resources for students.

  • REDCap - We use REDCap to manage our data and host our lab notebook. If you do not have access yet, you should fill out the linked form to request a REDCap account, listing Katie as your Penn sponsor. Make sure you use your @sas.upenn.edu email account.
