Expectations

To make things clear, we’ve summarized what is expected of you as a member of our lab.

New lab members

New lab members are expected to:

  1. Fill out hiring paperwork with Amy Forsyth
  2. Complete background check and fingerprinting - we bring children to our lab, so this is required for all lab members (even those not working directly with children).
  3. Complete the CITI human subjects training course (if conducting research or handling data)

Everyone

Everyone in the lab is expected to do the following:

  1. Conduct yourself in line with our values and code of conduct
  2. Document your work in the lab notebook each day (yes, every day you work on lab things).
  3. Submit encountered bugs via the bug tracker
  4. Help brainstorm solutions and fix lab bugs (also via bug tracker).
  5. Follow the lab’s explicit protocols for creating new studies, running studies, analyzing data, and archiving studies.
  6. Conduct a self-evaluation each year by April 10th to use in your yearly review with Katie.
  7. Attend the semester planning meetings and semester postmortems.
  8. Attend the yearly Spring dinner.

Postdocs

In addition to the above expectations for everyone, postdocs are expected to:

  1. Submit two grants by the end of your first year.
  2. Apply for conference travel funding. The lab will cover your entire cost of conference travel, or the balance after outside funding is applied, but only if you have made an effort to apply for funding.
  3. Attend the ILST seminar most weeks, the Dev Group Meeting most months, and PLC every year.

PhD students

In addition to the above expectations for everyone, grad students are expected to:

  1. Submit two grants by the end of your fourth year.
  2. Apply for conference travel funding. The lab will cover your entire cost of conference travel, or the balance after outside funding is applied, but only if you have made an effort to apply for funding.
  3. Attend the ILST seminar most weeks, the Dev Group Meeting most months, and PLC every year.

Programmers

In addition to the above expectations for everyone, programmers are expected to:

  1. Work at least 6 hours per week in the lab
  2. Complete the programmers’ daily workflow each day you work

Research Assistants

In addition to the above expectations for everyone, research assistants are expected to:

  1. Work at least 6 hours per week in the lab
  2. Complete the RA daily workflow each day you work

Illustrators

In addition to the above expectations for everyone, illustrators are expected to:

  1. Work at least 6 hours per week in the lab
  2. Complete the Illustrator’s daily workflow each day you work
